Dennis Hall
Founder, Chartered Financial Planner

Our Founder, Dennis Hall, is a Chartered Financial Planner whose career spans 35 years, mostly in Central London.

Dennis began his career in the Royal Marines where, amongst other things, he honed his cross-country skiing skills to become part of the regimental team. However, his skiing career was cut short when the Falklands war broke, and he was called to active service in the South Atlantic.

Back in the UK he encountered a stream of financial advisers trying to sell him endowment policies and he felt he could do a better job. So began his career in financial services.

Dennis worked for a number of City firms and rose quickly through the ranks. He also became Chair of the London Region of the Personal Finance Society, the Chair of the Institute of Financial Planning and senior examiner for the Chartered Insurance Institute. But his ambition had long been to open his own firm and he founded Yellowtail in 2006 where he helps busy successful people transition from working for a living, to financial independence. Allowing them to choose whether they work, retire, or something in-between.

“Some of my clients have been with me for over 25 years. This isn’t a series of one-off transactions; this is a continuous relationship that deepens over time. Money is incredibly personal and evokes strong emotions. And often it takes time for people to trust enough to share those feelings”.

Dennis regularly writes for the trade press and for the finance sections of national newspapers and has also written a book on getting your financial affairs in order called ‘Who Will it Hurt When I Die’

When he’s not in the office, Dennis is a keen runner and has taken part in two Marathons Des Sables. For balance, his other passion is cooking. A wannabe Masterchef contestant, Dennis loves spending time in his kitchen sharpening the skills he’s learned on cookery courses in the UK and Italy.
